BYD Home Charger in Saudi Arabia: The Complete Model-by-Model Guide

Which home charger fits your BYD? AC limits for every model, 7 kW vs 11 kW, portable vs wallbox, and what installation involves in a Saudi home.

BYD has become one of the fastest-growing EV brands in Saudi Arabia, and every new owner ends up asking the same question: which home charger fits my car, and do I need 7 kW or 11 kW? This guide answers it in detail for every BYD model sold in the Kingdom, and explains what a proper home installation involves, so you buy the right charger the first time.

The charging port on GCC-spec BYDs

All BYD electric models officially sold in Saudi Arabia and the GCC use a Type 2 port for AC (home) charging and CCS2 for DC fast charging at public stations. Any compliant Type 2 wallbox is physically compatible with your BYD.

AC charging capacity for each BYD model

AC charging speed is capped by the car itself (its onboard charger), not just the wallbox, so a more powerful wallbox cannot exceed your car’s ceiling. Here are the headline figures for the models available in the Saudi market:

Approximate charging capability of BYD models in Saudi Arabia

ModelApprox. batteryMax AC chargingApprox. 20–100% time
BYD Atto 360 kWh7 kWabout 7 hours
BYD Seal61–82 kWh11 kW4.5–6 hours
BYD Han85 kWh11 kWabout 6 hours
BYD Sealion 782 kWh11 kWabout 6 hours
DM-i hybrids (Song Plus, Qin Plus)18–26 kWh3.3–6.6 kW3–6 hours

Note: figures follow the manufacturer’s published specifications and can vary by model year and trim. Always confirm against your car’s manual or ask our technical team before buying.

7 kW or 11 kW: how to choose

The choice comes down to two things: your car’s AC ceiling and your home’s electrical supply. A 7 kW charger runs on the single-phase 230 V supply found in most apartments and villas, while 11 kW requires a three-phase 400 V supply.

  • If you drive an Atto 3 capped at 7 kW: a 7 kW charger is all you need. Upgrading adds no speed.
  • If you drive a Seal, Han, or Sealion capped at 11 kW and your home has three-phase supply: an 11 kW charger meaningfully cuts charging time.
  • Planning a second EV later? Consider an 11 kW unit or an upgrade-ready panel from day one.

Either way, overnight home charging comfortably covers typical daily driving: even a 7 kW charger adds roughly 40–50 km of range per hour.

Portable charger vs wallbox

Some BYDs come with a portable emergency charger that plugs into a regular socket, but it charges very slowly (around 2 kW) and can strain household wiring under daily use. A wall-mounted charger on its own dedicated breaker is the safe, practical daily option, and adds scheduling and consumption monitoring through an app.

What does installation involve in a Saudi home?

A proper installation starts with a load study to confirm your distribution board can take the extra demand, then a dedicated circuit with its own breaker and earth-leakage protection per the Saudi Building Code and utility requirements. We covered the full process in our step-by-step guide to home EV charger installation in Saudi Arabia.

  • A technical site survey to pick the best mounting point near your parking spot.
  • A dedicated line from the main panel with its own breaker and earth-leakage protection.
  • A certified Type 2 wallbox compliant with Saudi standards.
  • Commissioning with your own car, app handover, and warranty.

Does any Type 2 charger work with a BYD?

Electrically yes, but quality and certification are what separate chargers. Choose a recognized brand with international safety certifications and Saudi compliance, rated to match your car’s ceiling. At Climatech Charger we supply and install chargers from brands we are authorized distributors for, including Schneider Electric, Wallbox, EVBox, and ABB, with a warranty covering both the unit and the installation.
