BYD cars in Saudi Arabia use the Type 2 port
The BYD models officially imported into Saudi Arabia are the Seal, Han, Atto 3 and Dolphin. All of them have the standard Type 2 port and accept up to 11 kW three-phase AC or 7 kW single-phase AC from a home charger. BYD sells its own OEM charger, but most owners choose universal chargers such as Wallbox because parts are cheaper and local service is faster.
The Lucid Air needs a bigger charger
The Lucid Air Dream and Grand Touring have 88 to 118 kWh batteries, larger than most EVs on the road. On a 7 kW charger, a full charge takes 14 to 16 hours. We recommend a 22 kW three-phase charger for Lucid owners, which cuts charging to about 5 hours. Lucid officially supports Type 2 in Saudi Arabia.
OEM or universal charger?
BYD and Lucid dealers sometimes offer OEM chargers as an optional accessory. In Saudi Arabia, the main problem is spare parts. If an OEM charger fails after the warranty ends, parts can take weeks to arrive. Universal brands such as Wallbox, Phoenix Contact and ABB are widely available, and local engineers can replace parts within days.
If your EV was imported without a local warranty, consider buying an EV extended warranty in Saudi Arabia from EVS along with the charger. It covers the battery, motor and charging system for one to three years.
Three-phase power isn't always available
Most villas in Riyadh and Jeddah have single-phase electricity, and a 22 kW charger needs three-phase. Before you buy a large charger, ask an electrician to inspect the main panel. If your home is single-phase, a 7 kW charger is the right choice and avoids an expensive utility upgrade.
