The cost of a home EV charger installation depends on what the quote includes, the electrical capacity available and the actual cable route to your parking space. One offer may cover the charger and installation together, while another covers installation only. Start with a written scope before comparing totals.
For a quote that fits your home, provide the vehicle model, year and original sales market, and say whether you already own a charger. Add the property type, parking arrangement and daily charging needs. With these details the installer can suggest a suitable setup, and you avoid paying for capacity or work you do not need.
Separate supply, installation and ongoing costs
Charger supply covers the exact unit and agreed accessories. Ask for the manufacturer, model number, connector type and cable length, and whether a mounting stand, holder or extra meter is included. If you already have a charger, send its details and ask the installer to confirm they accept it and that it is compatible.
Installation covers the work specified for the site, such as cabling, mounting, electrical protection and any civil works, followed by testing, configuration and handover. The quote should list the included work and the items priced separately, especially panel work, trenching and reinstatement.
After handover, electricity, maintenance and any optional subscription remain separate costs. Ask whether the app, connectivity or support has a recurring fee and which functions work without it. Commissioning the charger does not include an ongoing operation or maintenance contract.
Why charger power alone does not tell you what to buy
Climatech offers 7, 11 and 22 kW AC options for home charging, and DC options up to 50 kW for premium residential projects. The right option depends on a site assessment, available electrical capacity and vehicle compatibility. A charger's rated output does not mean the car will charge at that power throughout the session.
With AC charging, usable power depends on the vehicle's onboard charging limit, the supply available and the configured charger output. A higher-rated wall unit does not increase the car's onboard limit.
For example, Tesla's Saudi Wall Connector page advertises up to 22 kW, while its published vehicle table lists limits up to 11 kW on three-phase supply and 7.4 kW on single-phase supply. These figures describe the vehicles and configurations in that source, not every EV sold in Saudi Arabia.
Before paying for higher capacity, confirm your exact vehicle's AC limit, the site's supply configuration and the output the charger will be set to. Lower power may be enough if the car stays parked long enough, depending on the energy you need, parking time and the electrical assessment. Three-phase supply alone does not prove there is enough spare capacity.
What the site assessment should resolve
Ask the specialist to explain the capacity available while household equipment is in use, the panel's condition, earthing, the cable route and protection appropriate to the charger and site. An empty breaker slot alone does not prove spare capacity.
There is no universal cable size, breaker rating or residual-current protection arrangement for every installation. These depend on the product manual, installation conditions and the design for the property. Ask for the requirements of your exact product in the scope of work.
Photos of the parking space and of the panel's closed exterior can help with an initial estimate. Do not remove a panel cover or expose wiring for a photograph. Ask which checks and measurements still need a visit before the price is final.
How the cable route and civil work change the quote
The cable route can be longer than the straight-line distance between the panel and car. Check its start and end points, included length, mounting method, drilling or trenching, and who restores the finishes. Tesla's home-charging guidance identifies long cable runs, trenching, panel work and mounting arrangements as possible additional installation items.
For outdoor parking, choose a position and mounting that suit the product instructions and the environment, and allow for vehicle movement and the cable's route. For shared parking, agree which meter will supply the charger and who pays for the electricity, and get approval for the route and works from whoever controls the property before installation.
Get any change priced and agreed in writing before work starts. An offer that only says "cabling included" is hard to compare without an agreed length, route and limits.
When load management deserves a separate quote
If available capacity is limited, ask about options the specialist can approve: a lower configured charging output, compatible load management, or supply upgrades where needed. Compare each option's cost and whether it meets your charging needs. A panel upgrade should have a documented reason; it should not follow automatically from choosing a larger charger.
Dynamic load management adjusts charging output as household demand changes within configured limits. Tesla's implementation needs a separately purchased approved meter and currently supports one Wall Connector. Those are product-specific limits, not specifications for every load-management system.
If the quote includes this feature, ask for the required meter or sensors, installation and configuration charges, compatibility with the site's supply, and behaviour if measurement or communication is lost. Load management does not remedy unsafe wiring or guarantee maximum charging power at all times.
Compare the offers line by line
Give each installer the same information and ask every quotation to cover:
- The charger and accessories, or a clear installation-only scope
- The site assessment, proposed output and reason for selecting it
- The cable route, included length and materials
- Required panel work, protection and earthing
- Trenching, drilling, mounting stand and reinstatement where needed
- Load-management hardware and configuration if part of the solution
- Testing, commissioning, owner instruction and handover records
- Exclusions, responsibility for approvals and any survey charge
- Total, VAT treatment, payment stages, validity and approval of extra work
- Equipment and workmanship warranties, maintenance terms and recurring fees
For example, an installation-only offer may be lower than one that includes a new charger. One quote may include surface reinstatement while another leaves it to you. A third may include a load-management meter. These are comparison examples, not project records or price estimates. Align the scope before deciding what the price difference means.
Keep electricity cost separate from installation cost
You pay for supply and installation under the project quotation, then pay for electricity during use. Kilowatts describe charging power; kilowatt-hours describe the energy used for billing.
To estimate the extra bill, use the energy drawn from the grid and your account's tariff, and include household consumption, billing bands, tax and other charges. Battery capacity alone is not a meter reading. Charging at night does not by itself lower the tariff or the month's total energy use. Check your bill and supplier information before trusting a savings estimate.
Agree on handover before work starts
Confirm what you will receive: the installed equipment, agreed settings, test results or records, an explanation of normal use, and support and warranty details. The home EV charger handover checklist helps you review these at completion.
